Who we are
MOTReminder is operated by Alpha Pariah Studios, a sole trader based in Wrexham, Wales, UK. You can contact us at business@alphapariah.studio.
Alpha Pariah Studios is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under registration reference ZC106985. We act as the data controller for any data processed in connection with this service.
What data we collect
MOTReminder collects the following data when you sign up for MOT reminders:
Email address — provided by you when registering for a reminder. Used solely to send you MOT expiry reminder emails.
MOT expiry date — retrieved from the DVSA MOT History API based on the registration number you enter, and stored alongside your email address to determine when to send your reminder.
When you enter a vehicle registration number to check MOT or tax status without signing up for a reminder, that registration number is used solely to query the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and DVSA MOT History API in real time. We do not log, store, or retain registration numbers used for one-off checks.
How we use your data
Your email address and MOT expiry date are used exclusively to send you a reminder email ahead of your MOT expiry date. We will not use your email address for marketing, share it with third parties, or contact you for any other purpose without your explicit consent.
Legal basis for processing
Reminder data (email + MOT expiry date) — processed on the basis of your consent, given when you submit your email address and registration number to sign up for reminders. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
Analytics data — processed on the basis of our legitimate interests in understanding how the service is used in order to improve it. This data is anonymous and aggregated.
Google Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymous usage statistics — for example, which pages are visited and how long visitors spend on the site. IP anonymisation is enabled. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you personally.
GA4 may use cookies to distinguish returning visitors. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Google acts as a data processor on our behalf for analytics data. For more information on how Google processes this data, see Google's Privacy Policy.
Cookies
We do not set any first-party cookies. Google Analytics may set cookies as described above. You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time.
Third-party services
MOTReminder queries the following third-party APIs to provide vehicle data:
DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service — operated by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. See DVLA's privacy notice.
DVSA MOT History API — operated by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency. See DVSA's privacy information.
These agencies are independent data controllers in respect of any data held within their own systems. MOTReminder does not share any user data with these or any other third parties beyond what is necessary to fulfil a real-time query.
Data retention
Your email address and associated MOT expiry date are retained until your reminder has been sent, after which they are deleted automatically. If you unsubscribe before your reminder is sent, your data is deleted promptly. Anonymous analytics data is retained by Google in accordance with their standard retention policies.
Your rights under UK GDPR
As a UK-based service, we comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. You have the following rights in respect of your personal data:
Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data we hold.
Erasure — request deletion of your personal data at any time.
Withdrawal of consent — unsubscribe from reminders at any time using the unsubscribe link in any reminder email, or by contacting us directly. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal.
Complaint — lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint if you believe your data has been mishandled.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at business@alphapariah.studio. We will respond within 30 days.
